Britain Tells Families to Keep Food, Water and Cash as Glenn Beck Warns 'Prepare for Impact'

London's new "Be Ready" campaign joins a wave of 72-hour advisories across Europe, as the Pentagon readies U.S. bases to run off the grid. Matt Walsh says take it seriously, but skip the panic.

Britain's government has asked every household in the country to be ready to live on its own supplies for three days: bottled water, food that needs no cooking, a flashlight, a battery or wind-up radio, and cash in case card machines and ATMs go down.

The "Be Ready" campaign, launched by the Cabinet Office on Oct. 22, is the first stage of a three-year push. More than 500 charities and businesses have signed up to spread the message, with radio and social media ads to follow. The government says the advice brings Britain "in line with European peers including France, Ireland and The Netherlands."

Glenn Beck thinks people should pay attention.

"I want you to prepare for impact," Beck says in the 15-minute video attached to the post. "I hope and pray I'm wrong. But massive war is coming."

Europe's three-day rule

Britain is late to this. The European Commission asked all 27 member states in March 2025 to get the public to keep "essential supplies for a minimum of 72 hours." At the time, the EU's crisis commissioner, Hadja Lahbib, said "Ready for anything" must become "our new European way of life."

Most governments now ask for three days. Some ask for more:

The Netherlands puts a number on the cash: 70 euros per adult and 30 per child, enough for "the first 72 hours" if payment systems fail, according to the Dutch central bank.

Sweden tells households in its "If Crisis or War Comes" booklet that "most of us must be able to manage on our own for at least a week."

Germany's civil protection office recommends supplies for up to 10 days.

Bar chart of how many days of self-sufficiency governments ask for: United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Denmark and the European Union 3 days; Sweden 7; Germany 10; U.S. military bases under FORTRESS 90 days, as reported by Fox News.

London insists nothing specific is behind it. In a written statement to Parliament, Security Minister Dan Jarvis tied the campaign to last winter's storms and this summer's wildfires. He also cited government research showing "just 13% of people in the UK feel they're prepared for an emergency that could cut them off from the services they rely on, and that 84% want the Government to do more."

Fortress America

The other piece of Beck's warning is at home. On Sept. 30, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced FORTRESS, short for Federal Operations for Resilience, Troop Resources, Energy, Supply and Survivability. The goal: every major U.S. military base generates its own power, independent of the civilian grid, and critical supply chains come home.

"No matter the circumstance, this department will have the power, the equipment and the supplies you need to take the fight to the enemy," Hegseth said in his State of the Force speech. "The Department of War will be the insurance policy for the entire nation."

Fox News reported Oct. 25 that the plan calls for bases to keep running at least 90 days without outside support. The Pentagon has not publicly confirmed that number. A senior defense official told reporters Oct. 20 that energy, including microgrids and battery backup, comes first, and that the department is still working out the cost for roughly 500 bases.

To Beck, that's the tell. "Our own military is planning to be on its own for three months," he says. "You should do the same."

Beck: Europe won't say why

Beck argues that Europe's leaders see their own decline coming. They point to stalled economies, weak militaries and mass migration nobody voted for, and he says they won't admit it. "None of them are going to tell you why they're saying that because the explanation ends in a confession," he says. "So instead you get a pamphlet about bottled water."

His advice is calm, though. "Do not panic. Do not change your life. Make plans for Christmas," he says. "When a pilot says brace for impact, he's not screaming. He's calm because he knows what's going to happen next."

Walsh: prepare, don't panic

Matt Walsh dug into the same wave of warnings on his show Wednesday.

In a column for The Daily Wire, Walsh traced several viral posts back to their sources. He found that some were misleading. A Japanese "emergency request," he wrote, is routine disaster guidance in a country that has run national drills every year since 1960. But Britain's change, he said, is real: "a massive, three-year blitz that seemingly came out of nowhere, without any clear justification."

"The question is: 'Why is all of this preparation happening at this particular moment, across several different countries?'" Walsh wrote.

He sees the bigger danger in SI-driven cyberattacks rather than nuclear war, and his bottom line splits the difference: "blithe, baseless reassurance is just as irresponsible as apocalyptic fear-mongering." The goal, he wrote, is "not to be scared or panicked, but simply prepared."

What three days looks like

Britain's checklist is a fair starting point for any family. It calls for 3 liters of drinking water per person per day, enough food that needs no cooking for three days, a flashlight, a battery or wind-up radio, any medicines you need, and cash.

It costs little. As Beck put it, a government asking for three days of water "is asking you to do what your grandmother did without being told."
